Just as I was Getting into Painting!

Just as I was getting into painting, along come commissions for Pen & Ink!

One Stately Home where 'the couple' were married.

Six fish drawings, similar to the one below on an earlier post.

Not that I'm complaining ...but I thought I was busy before they arrived! That's show biz!

  1. Hi John, Long time no visit - I'm not sure what happened but you must've disappeared off my blog roll and I've not had the reminder to see what new posts you've written. Time to go off and have a look back, it seems. Sounds like you are as busy as always with your creativity whether ink or paint!!

  4. Commissions, as fiscally sweet as they are, are annoying and confusing. They turn a love into a job. As much as the business of art validates your skill, it ties you down and places you at the mercy of others and their bidding. Congratulations and at the same time please accept my condolences.

  6. I think the whole commission issue is so interesting. I am personally exploring a tangent that is probably so baffling to the usual representational crowd, but possibly quite marketable in the future. I just wish I wasn't so hung up on marketability. I paint my best when I am absorbed in the work Good for you to work on the really old sailing ships again, but also congrats on the commissions and interest in your work! Life would be a whole lot less interesting if there were no such conflicts, wouldn't it?

  9. Congratulations John! While I prefer not to do too many commissions for all the reasons stated above, I have found that when the process is completed, I have grown in ways I wouldn't have otherwise. I'm sure you would agree!
