Boat Club

I haven't any paintings to show at the moment, but I have so many painting projects in the planning stage that I'm very excited .... however ... we went to a place called Parrog today (5 miles away) ... so ... look out for seascapes in the future.

Parrog is a small village which is part of  the town of Newport, Pembrokeshire. Now when I tell you that Newport has a population of only 1200, you can imagine that Parrog is tiny.

We went to Parrog to join the Newport Boat Club:

Newport Boat Club, Parrog, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

It was a wet and windy day and all the boats are laid-up for winter. Here's a more popular seasonal picture:

You can see the potential for paintings already can't you?

We joined the club - a cosy little place we will be using a lot once I've finished building Seagull

Seagull - The  Wooden Maine Lobster Boat I'm building

I had a look around for launching slips and there are lots of them. This one looked the most likely one, for two reasons:

Firstly, it's adjacent to the Boat Club Car Park and secondly, it is next to the lovely little restaurant which you can see on the left, in yellow. Best Crab Bake Pat has ever tasted.

My daughter and her dog Blodwyn sniffed-out a second slip behind the Boat Club:

Looks like lots of fun ahead ... I like the idea of painting from a boat!

  3. It looks like a lovely wee place - as remote down that end of the UK as it is up this end! Is there no end to your talents - you're building a boat as well!!

  6. Wow... Where on earth do you start building a boat!! And how amazing that you are going to be able to not only build it, but actually take it out too!! Looks like such a quaint and beautiful place... I swear I have watched a painting program once and a guy was doing a watercolour of that very scene (the one of all of the boats sitting in the sand). Anyway, yes there are certainly some potential paintings there. I can't wait to see what you come up with! Mind you, good luck if you intend painting whilst on a boat... That would be one way to loosen me up if I tried it!!

  7. I'm sure that's a rhetorical question, Sandra .... but if you want to know how, look at my boat-building blog http://techssimboats.blogspot.co.uk/

The whole area is fantastic and the people here are very kind and gentle (until they play Rugby). It's a painters paradise - the light is fantastic; with no pollution the colours stand out vividly.

Don't suppose, in truth, I'll paint on the boat; more like take photographs ... but who knows?

  9. You let this creep up on us didn't you? I have been stuck inside your building room looking at wood coming together like a jigsaw puzzle. I know all the building terms as you educated me along the way,
but now the true goal has become clear...you want Pat to enjoy the "best crab bake she has ever tasted " while you sit in the Seagull listening to the lapping of the water while painting to your hearts content in the most beautiful spot in Wales.
Not too shabby, dear John, indeed I would call it - the good life!

    1. Well .............. the boat is where you left it, and I still have to finish it.

I'm still focusing on how to digest and use your information about all things red!
