Portrait #2

Really disappointed with the photograph. My portrait of Anders Zorn might not be brilliant, but it's a whole lot better than
'Anders Zorn'                 John Simlett
Acrylic on Canvas  (14 inches x 10 inches)
the photo. Not that it matters that much.

  1. Not sure why you'd be disappointed, John. The portrait is fabulous and definitely a style of your own. I wish I could do half as well!

  2. John, you're just fishing. Quit giving us all this bull that you can't paint. We all know that when you can draw as you can, painting isn't going to be much of a problem. This is a fine painting with an alla prima air and you know it--or should. If you don't, give it three days on the observation ledge. Time weeds out the bummers.

    1. (Chuckle) I just don't have the ability to assess my own work, Linda. I gawp in naive admiration at other folks work ... but mine never reaches exactly what I had in mind or what I was attempting to do.

Thanks for the back-handed compliment. :0)))

    1. Thanks, Hilda. Our portraits have one thing in common: whilst yours are 'heavenly' mine are like 'nothing on earth!' :0))

      Starting the next portrait now1

  4. Laughing at what Linda wrote. Such a complement. She has the eye for sure.
I really like the way you painted it, but he definitely was not a happy looking man.
Did you place the green on the tie or was it in the photo? Very Xmas!

    1. Linda is a great character, artistically gifted, a needle-sharp wit and the ability to make me laugh.

He certainly was a miserable looking bugger, wasn't he? His tie was green, and I just represented it with a splodge (not too technical?) I'll no doubt be speaking to you before long, but a happy Christmas to you anyway.
