This is quite the biggest canvas I've painted on so far: 24 inches x 18 inches (610 x 457 mm).
I saw this photograph and just had to have a go at it.
I have painted all weekend, a luxury I've spent all year working towards. I hope to finish tomorrow.
Looking good. Striking colors. You do the Geisha well--you did a couple in acrylic didn't you?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda. The ones I did in the past were more 'cartoon' than portrait , but they all offer unusual poses and wonderful colours
DeleteSuperbe ! And what a wonderful week-end for you, John. Only colors and quiet...
ReplyDeletemerci beaucoup, Anne. I loved the 'fruit' in your last post
DeleteJohn that look looks amazing already. A very intriguing pose and the creamy tones of her skin look luminous already at this stage.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nic. I really enjoyed your seascapes of the most Northern point in Scotland
DeleteThis time last year we had a live session with a Geisha in the Theatre John, it was a prelude to the film “The Artist and the Model”. Walking through Cardigan and Fishguard with a Geisha in full regalia was an interesting experience :).
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, David. my youngest son married a Japanese girl in Tokyo (It's their Silver Wedding Anniversary next year) Most of the guests were in traditional dress - it was wonderful
DeleteNice work, John!
ReplyDeleteThank you, sherry
DeleteThis is truly beautiful, John! LOVE her expression and gorgeous colors... I'm looking forward to seeing the finished painting!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you approve, Hilda. A lot of rain in NY today (and here)
DeleteLove your subject matter and how you have placed her on the canvas. I like to use a sienna toned canvas although a bit lighter than yours. Lovely work, John.
ReplyDeleteThe photograph posed her for me. The toning of the canvas is still a problem for me. I love the Autumnal hues.
DeleteWonderful work, John, so is the previous one. I love the deep warm colours of this one. It is really fascinating to follow your progress!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Judy. I seem to default to the earth pigments
